We'll always need landfills to contain the trash that can't be recycled or converted to other uses. Modern disposal technologies are often misunderstood. There are still a lot of people who think that landfills are little more than a hole in the ground where our trash is buried.

The Enviroscape^® Landfill Model gives you the opportunity to show the public how modern landfill systems work, and how they differ from old-style "dumps." Liner systems and leachate management methods are much easier to demonstrate than explain.

The Landfill Model can help you demonstrate:

The model comes complete with the groundwater liner to show protection of the aquifer through the use of modern landfills, comparing today's technology with the pollution caused by yesterday's dumps.

How does it work?

You simulate rain on the active landfill cell. Your audience follows the formation and flow of the rain as it percolates through the layers of trash and comes to rest on top of the main liner and collection system.

You collect the leachate with active pumps drawing from perforated collection pipes housed within the main collection system. You can recirculate the leachate by recharging the active cell or pump excess into above-ground bermed tanks for storage and transport to an off-site treatment facility.

A landfill cover allows you to demonstrate how water runs off the impermeable cap of a closed cell and into on-site stormwater retention or recharge areas.
